FAQ

Do I need to have my cap and gown?

Not at all. While cap & gown photos are always welcome, many graduates choose to include outfits that reflect their personality, future career, hobbies, sports, or accomplishments.

Can I bring props?

Absolutely. Props like letterman jackets, sports equipment, instruments, college gear, books, vehicles, pets, FFA animals, dance shoes, and other meaningful items are encouraged. We want your photos to capture you in your current era.

Do you photography college graduates?

Yes! We photograph high school seniors, college graduates, trade school graduates, graduate students, homeschool graduates, and adult learners celebrating educational milestones.

I want to take a picture with family, can they be included?

Absolutely! Parents, siblings, grandparents, partners, and even close friends are welcome to join for a portion of the session.

When should I book my session?

We recommend booking at least 4-8 weeks before you need announcements, invitations, or graduation materials.

What if I dont have cap and gown or my regalia yet?

No problem. Many schools don't distribute caps, gowns, cords, or stoles until shortly before graduation.

You can schedule your senior session before receiving your regalia and focus on your personality, achievements, hobbies, sports, future plans, and everyday senior portraits. If you'd like traditional cap & gown images later, we can discuss adding a mini graduation session once your regalia arrives.

If I choose my own location will you travel?

Yes. We can come to you. We can recommend locations throughout Northern California, or we can photograph at a location that's meaningful to you.

Travel fees may apply outside our included travel area.

What is The Tassel Turned Project?

Every graduate deserves to have their accomplishment recognized.

The Tassel Turned Project provides sponsored graduation photography experiences to selected graduates who may not otherwise have the opportunity to celebrate this milestone. Through nominations from families, educators, coaches, and community members, we're able to highlight inspiring stories while creating lasting memories.

Participants help keep the project moving forward by allowing us to share their images and encourage future nominations.

Learn more about the project and how to nominate someone here.

How does my session make a difference?

We believe meaningful moments should create meaningful impact. That's why a portion of our profits from every completed session is donated to one of three nonprofit organizations: One Tree Planted, The National Diaper Bank Network, or NorCal Services for Deaf & Hard of Hearing. Whether we're celebrating a graduation, welcoming a new baby, documenting a wedding, or capturing another milestone, every session helps support our environment, local communities, and families in need.

The tassel turned project

sponsored by Jolie & Rae Photography

because every graduate's journey looks different.

For some, graduation comes with cheers, parties, and professional photos. For others, the road to the finish line is marked by financial hardship, family challenges, illness, loss, unexpected responsibilities, or obstacles that make the achievement even more meaningful.

The Tassel Turned Project exists to celebrate graduates whose stories deserve recognition and whose accomplishments deserve to be remembered. Through community nominations, selected graduates receive a sponsored photography experience designed to honor the journey that brought them here.

Know a graduate who deserves to be celebrated? Teachers, counselors, coaches, family members, friends, and community members are encouraged to submit a nomination.

Visit our nomination page to learn more about the program, eligibility, and how to nominate a graduate.

Giving back beyond the session

A portion of select sessions may be set aside to support causes that care for families, communities, and the environment.

Contributions may vary by session. Clients are always welcome to suggest a cause that matters to them.
