An engagement session gives you time to slow down, get used to being photographed together, and learn what kind of direction feels natural before the wedding day.
You do not need to know how to pose or arrive with a full plan. We will help with locations, outfits, movement, and the small adjustments that make photographs feel polished without making the session feel stiff.
Your engagement photographs can be used for save-the-dates, invitations, wedding websites, guest books, framed prints, announcements, or simply as a record of this part of your relationship.
eNGAGEMENT PORTRAIT SESSIONS
The Engagement Portrait Session may be booked separately for $300 or included as a complimentary session when you book your wedding photography with Jolie & Rae.
The one-hour session allows time for one to two nearby locations, one to two outfits, and a mix of guided portraits and less structured moments. We will also help with location planning, outfit choices, and the details that will make the session feel more personal to you.

A complimentary one-hour engagement session is included when you book your wedding photography with Jolie & Rae.
It gives us a chance to work together before the wedding, helps you feel more comfortable with posing and direction, and lets us learn what feels natural for you as a couple. Your photographs can also be used for save-the-dates, invitations, wedding websites, guest books, announcements, and prints. Couples who are not booking wedding photography may reserve the session separately for $300.
What should we wear?
COORDINATE WITHOUT MATCHING
Choose clothing that feels like a polished version of what you already wear. You do not need to dress like different people just because you are having professional photographs taken.
Colors and textures usually photograph better when they complement each other without matching exactly. Avoid both wearing the same color from head to toe unless that is already part of your style.
If your session includes an outfit change, consider bringing one casual look and one dressier option. This gives your gallery more variety without needing an entirely different concept.
Comfort matters too. Clothing that constantly needs to be adjusted can become distracting during the session. You are welcome to send outfit options before the session if you would like help narrowing them down.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT SETTING
The best engagement-session location is not always the most popular one. We will consider the overall look you want, travel, accessibility, time of year, available light, privacy, and whether you want a natural, urban, formal, casual, or more personal setting.
Locations may include parks, downtown areas, open landscapes, private property with permission, meaningful neighborhoods, or another approved setting. Some quieter locations are reserved for booked clients and are not listed publicly.

DO YOU TRAVEL FOR ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS?
Jolie & Rae Photography is based in Lincoln, California and photographs couples throughout Placer County, Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom, Auburn, San Francisco, and other Northern California communities.
Travel within 75 miles of Lincoln is included with the standard engagement session. Sessions beyond that range are available with a custom travel quote. We would love to come to you.
CAN WE BOOK AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION IF YOU ARE NOT PHOTOGRAPHING OUR WEDDING?
Yes. The engagement session may be booked on its own. You do not need to choose a Jolie & Rae wedding collection.
IS AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION INCLUDED WITH A WEDDING PACKAGE?
A complimentary one-hour engagement session is included with the Heirloom Wedding Collection. It may also be booked separately with other wedding plans.
CAN WE BRING OUR PET?
Yes. Pets are welcome when the location allows them.
Let us know beforehand so we can plan around leashes, treats, cleanup supplies, and whether another person should attend to help between photographs.
CAN WE USE TWO LOCATIONS?
Yes. The standard engagement session includes one to two locations.
The locations should be reasonably close to each other so travel does not consume a large part of the session. Longer travel or additional locations may require extra time.
DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH PROPOSALS?
Yes. Proposal photography can be planned separately from a standard engagement session.
Because proposals require additional coordination, timing, and discretion, send the proposed date, location, and general plan so we can recommend the right coverage
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?
We will review the forecast and location conditions before the session.
Depending on the severity of the weather, we may adjust the start time, choose a covered location, continue with a rain-friendly plan, or reschedule.
WHEN WILL WE RECEIVE OUR PHOTOGRAPHS?
Three sneak peeks are delivered within 72 hours. The full edited gallery is delivered within three to four weeks.
DO YOU HELP WITH POSING?
Yes. Direction is included throughout the session.
You will receive guidance with positioning, movement, hands, posture, and where to look without being expected to memorize poses.
Giving back beyond the session
A portion of select sessions may be set aside to support causes that care for families, communities, and the environment.
Contributions may vary by session. Clients are always welcome to suggest a cause that matters to them.
